Two Kilometre Extension Planned for Charlottetown Resource Road

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today that his department has awarded a contract valued at $8490 that will permit the construction of two kilometres of forest access road next spring.

"This contract will allow for a right of way to be cut prior to the road construction season, thus eliminating delays in a short construction season," said Mr. Aylward. "The construction of this road next spring will provide access to over-mature timber in the area and allow for follow-up silviculture work which will help secure the long term viability of our forest resource. As well, it will immediately provide an opportunity to salvage merchantable pulpwood and sawlogs along the two kilometre strip."

Kirby Earle Stone of Charlottetown, Labrador has been awarded this contract. Work is expected to commence by mid-October and take approximately three weeks to complete, employing four to five people.
