Planting project approved for Riverhead Brook

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today that he has approved a contract that will permit 180 hectares of productive forest land which presently does not have adequate stocking levels to be replanted.

The minister made this announcement along with his colleague Tom Lush, MHA - Terra Nova. Mr. Aylward said: "Reforestation is an important component in maintaining a healthy forest ecosystem and contributing to long term viability of our forest. I am pleased to inform the public that Budland Enterprises Ltd. of Baytona has been awarded this contract valued at $29,514.60."

Mr. Lush added: "I am pleased to join the minister in making this announcement. This project will not only have a positive impact on the forest sector, but it will generate 14 weeks employment for four people in the area and contribute to the local economy."

Work on this contract will commence in September, and will be completed by early October.
