The following statement was recently distributed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

WARNING

Les Aliments Valli Foods Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, is announcing that consumers who have purchased Bella di Cerignola brand green olives in a 3 litre jar should be advised not to consume this product.

The Bella di Cerignola green olives which were imported from Italy in a 3 litre jar could contain a bacteria that could be dangerous. Approximately 2,800 jars have been distributed throughout Canada and particularly in Quebec. Until today, no illnesses has been reported from the consumption of this product that was available for sale between the months of February and August 1997. Valli Foods Inc. has already removed that product from the market.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the recall of this product.

Consumers that have questions regarding this problem may contact Valli Foods at (514) 325-6794 between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..

The company Valli Foods Inc. will accept all long distance calls.
