Silviculture project announced for Bonavista North

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today that Treeland Enterprises Ltd. of Port Anson has been awarded a tree thinning project valued at $24,950.

The minister stated: "This project will see 50 hectares of forest pre commercially thinned near Ragged Harbour River. This area was originally destroyed by the 1961 forest fire and has regenerated naturally. It is our goal to reduce the stand density to approximately 2,500 crop trees per hectare. This treatment will produce trees with a larger diameter over a shorter rotation period."

Beaton Tulk, MHA - Bonavista North said: "This project will improve the overall stand health and development, as well 12 people will be employed for a total of five weeks"

This project is scheduled to commence in early August and be completed in early September.
