July 18, 1997 (Forest Resources and Agrifoods) Three kilometre extension for White Hump Resource Road The Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, Kevin Aylward, announced today a three kilometre extension to White Hump Resource Road in The Straits/White Bay North District. The contract, valued at $58,900 was awarded to Critch's Construction Ltd. of Springdale. Mr. Aylward stated: "This extension will permit access to overmature timber in the area for sawlogs and pulpwood by products for the sawmillers in the area. It will allow for follow-up silviculture work which will help secure the long term viability of our forest resource." Chris Decker, MHA for the district, joined the minister in making the announcement. "I am pleased to be part of this announcement today, the extension of White Hump Resource Road is needed in the area to access new sawlog material. In addition it will create 10 weeks of work for six people." This contract is scheduled to commence in mid July and conclude in late September.
