July 18, 1997 (Forest Resources and Agrifoods) Extension planned for East Castor River Resource Road Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today that he has approved a 1.7 kilometre extension to the East Castor River Resource Road in the District of St. Barbe. The contract, valued at $34,800, has been awarded to Abe Gibbons & Sons Limited of Plum Point. Mr. Aylward explained this road will access timber for sawlog and pulpwood production for sawmillers in the area. The minister stated: "This road construction will also permit follow up silviculture work which will help secure the long term viability of our forest resource." Chuck Furey, MHA - St. Barbe said: "I am pleased to join the Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods in making this announcement. Resource roads such as this one, have a positive impact not only on the forest sector, but also generate employment in the area." Work on this contract will commence in July, and will be completed by mid September. The project will employ eight people for a six week period.
