Pre-commercial Thinning Contract for Chain Lakes Salt Water Pond, Humber Valley District

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, and Rick Woodford, MHA - Humber Valley, are pleased to announce the award of a contract for site preparation in the Chain Lake/Salt Water Pond area.

The contract, worth $58,750, was awarded to Samson Holding of Harbour Breton. The minister gave some background on the contract, stating: "This project will involve the thinning of 100 hectares of land in order to promote growth in healthy timber, as well as to minimise the rotation age." Mr. Woodford commented: "This is the type of silviculture project which aims at improving the quality of timber produced in our forests."

The $58,750 contract will see 100 hectares of land thinned over a nine week period. A total of 15 people will be employed.
