Bridge Construction for Loon Bay Resource Road, Lewisporte District

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, and Melvin Penny, MHA - Lewisporte District, are pleased to announce the award of a contract for the construction of a bridge on the Loon Bay resource road.

The contract, worth $21,200, was awarded to Can-Am Construction Ltd. of Mount Pearl. They will be required to remove and dispose of the existing wooden bridge and construct a new one spanning 16 feet. Mr. Tulk pointed out: " It's the policy of the Department to do all it can to ensure the maintenance and safety of these bridges. They undergo heavy duty wear and tear over the years with logging equipment as their main traffic. Of course, we have to keep in mind the roads and bridges are also used by people on their ATV's for recreation and hunting, so public safety is a major factor here as well." Mr. Penny observed: "With the reconstruction of the bridge, the Crown Land area beyond it will be more easily accessible to commercial harvesters.

The $21,200 project is slated to begin on July 1, employing four people.
