Tree seedling planting project valued at $33,440

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forestry Resources and Agrifoods, and Kevin Aylward, MHA - St. George's/ Stephenville East, are pleased to announce the award of a $33,440 seedling planting contract to be carried out in Chignic.

The successful bid went to Budland Enterprises Ltd. of Baytona. They will undertake to reforest 160 hectares of land with White Spruce seedlings. This area is inadequately stocked with white spruce at the present time. Mr. Tulk commented: "Currently, planned reforestation projects such as this one are the key to the lasting success of forestry throughout Newfoundland and Labrador."

Mr. Aylward added: "This is not only a boost to the local economy, but a guarantee of jobs in the future."

The project is scheduled to start June 9 and will run for four weeks, until July 4. A total of $33,440 will be spent, employing 15 people.
