Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, and Chuck Furey, MHA - St. Barbe, and are pleased to announce the award of a contract for $44,999.88 for the planting of white spruce tree seedlings in the Port Saunders region.

Carter's Electrical Ltd. of Botwood has been awarded the contract which will involve the planting of white spruce in a 142 hectare area. The species is inadequately represented in this forest area at the current time. Mr. Furey stated: "This short-term project will have the double-barrelled impact of providing employment for 15 people in the area, as well as ensuring the regeneration of our forests."

Mr. Tulk said: "The reforestation of our province is vital to the future success of all forest industries carried out here. The west coast has always been a key area for timber harvesting, and this type of project, and others like it around the province will ensure its success."
