Kevin Aylward, MHA for St. George's/Stephenville East and Minister of Environment and Labour, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods are pleased to announce the award of a $23,920 contract to prepare land for future planting.

The contract to rake slash into windrows over a 115 hectare area in Little Crabbes has been awarded to Gill's Trucking and Logging Ltd., of Robinsons. This activity will facilitate the future removal of slash, or remnant tree tops, stumps and logs, by burning in windrows.

Mr. Aylward stated: "The ultimate goal is to ensure the future planting of this site in order to guarantee the viability of forest industries in our area."

Mr. Tulk added: "This project is an important one to the district, and part of a significant province-wide plan to keep all forestry related industries alive and well."

The project will begin June 9 and run for nine weeks, employing one person.
