Reminder of deadline for moose/caribou licence applications

Beaton Tulk, minister responsible for wildlife, would like to remind hunters that this Friday, March 7, is the deadline for accepting applications for the 1997 moose/caribou licence draw and the spring black bear hunt.

"This year we have an additional 2,000 moose licences and 1,000 more caribou licences available on the island," said the minister. "I would like to remind hunters to be sure that their application is received no later than this Friday, March 7 in order to be included in the draw for moose and caribou licences, and the licence for the spring black bear hunt."

For the moose and caribou license application, note that no fee is required at this time. Payment is collected from successful applicants after the draw.

For persons applying for a bear licence, however, they must submit the licence fee of $32.10 (GST included) with the application.

Applications must be submitted to the Wildlife Division office in Pleasantville, Building 810, Box 8770, St. John's, A1B 4K9. A pre- addressed envelope was provided to applicants with their application material. Applications for the moose/caribou licence draw received after March 7 will not be considered for a licence this year.
