Deadline for submitting claims under the new PST Housing Rebate program
ends December 31, 1997

The Department of Finance would like to advise builders of residential complexes in the province that the deadline for submitting claims under the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) Transitional New Housing Rebate program is December 31, 1997.

If you are a builder, and you were in the process of constructing or substantially renovating a residential complex, or constructing an addition to a multi-unit residential complex in the province before April 1, 1997, you may qualify for the PST Transitional New Housing Rebate.

The rebate was put in place to avoid double taxation on homes for which construction had started prior to April 1, 1997, but a sale did not take place until after March 31, 1997 when the HST came into effect. A copy of the guide and rebate application can be obtained by calling (709) 772-2639 or 1-800-959-5525, or on the Internet at address //www.rc.gc.ca/.
