(Executive Council)

Following is the Christams message from His Honour, the Honourable A. M. House, Lieutenant-Governor:

My wife Mary and I are very grateful for the opportunity to bring Seasons Greetings from Government House to you and your families.

This is the time of the year when we tend to put aside cares and stresses as much as possible and join in the traditional Christmas and New Years festivities. During this period of celebration and socializing with friends and family it is easy to forget that there are some who, through no fault of their own, are anything but well off. In particular there are children, who do not have the attention, the basic food and comforts that they need and deserve. We must all remember them and ensure that their situation is improved. This is a responsibility we all share.

Let us also remember those families who, through personal or financial circumstances, find it especially difficult to share fully in the joys of Christmas. There is, however, optimism that this province is on the verge of significant economic improvement. Let us hope that we can use our substantial resources, for the betterment of all.

In the coming year my wife and I look forward to meeting and talking to many of you in person, as we continue our visits throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. For now it is my pleasure to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
