Christmas Lights Across Canada

On Tuesday, December 2, Premier Brian Tobin will take part in the National Capital Commission's (NCC) annual Christmas Lights Across Canada event. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Confederation Building, East Block.

Now in its 12th year, Christmas Lights Across Canada is a national program based on the Canadian holiday tradition of decorating public areas and homes with festive lights. Concurrent lighting ceremonies will take place in most provincial and territorial capitals - as well as on Parliament Hill - creating a link with the nation's capital and a dazzling display of colour and light all across the country.

In Ottawa, His Excellency the Right Honourable Romeo Leblanc, Governor General of Canada, will participate in the ceremony to officially switch on the lights on Parliament Hill beginning at 6:30 p.m., Eastern Standard time.

The annual provincial ceremony will include a performance by the St. John's Citadel Salvation Army Band and Christmas Carols sung by the MacDonald Drive Elementary School Choir. The Christmas tree lights will be illuminated at approximately 7:15 p.m. Refreshments will be provided after the tree lighting and carol sing. Everyone is welcome.
