(Executive Council)

Statement by Premier Brian Tobin on the ocassion of the resignation of Premier Frank McKenna:

Frank McKenna has served New Brunswick and his country in a manner unequalled in contemporary Canadian politics. Both his service as a provincial premier and his positive leadership role on the national unity file leave an example of excellence in public policy that sets the standard in this country.

Frank has chosen to leave politics in the manner in which he governed. His leave taking is decisive and without hesitation. However, I know just how personally difficult this decision has been for the McKennas. It cannot be easy to leave behind something in which Frank and Julie McKenna have so excelled. My wife Jodean joins me in wishing them both the very best in the years ahead.
