September 30, 1997 Premier and Opposition Leader release further details of unity consultation process Premier Brian Tobin and Opposition Leader Loyola Sulllivan today released further details on the Newfoundland and Labrador Unity Consultation Process. Members of the House of Assembly (MHAs) will consult with their constituents on a district-by-district basis beginning October 1 for an approximate six week period. Individuals are advised to contact their local MHA to find out how to participate in local meetings and other events. Effective October 1, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can also access information in both official languages on the unity consultation process, and leave comments where appropriate, as per the following:
Telereceptionists will service the toll-free number 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Callers can request information or leave comments. Bilingual service will also be available. Telereceptionists will forward questions to the callers' MHAs for follow up. Anyone using the above services will be asked to indicate their provincial electoral district in order that correspondence may be forwarded to their appropriate MHA who will compile the information in preparation for a debate in the House of Assembly later in the fall. Premier Tobin and Mr. Sullivan encourage Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to make their views known on the Canadian unity issue over the next six weeks.
