July 9, 1997 (Executive Council) The following is being distributed at the request of Buckingham Palace: Honours in the Royal Victorian Order Her Majesty The Queen has been graciously pleased to make the following appointments in the Royal Victorian Order on the occasion of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh's visit to Canada - June 23 to July 2, 1997.
The order was instituted by Queen Victoria on April 21, 1896 as a reward for personal service to the Sovereign and as a mark of Royal esteem. There is no limit to the number of members, but the order is highly prized as an honour bestowed as the Sovereign's personal gift.
