(Executive Council)

The following statement was released by Premier Brian Tobin in response to an article in the Evening Telegram today referring to the release of information on the pensions of three former Members of the House of Assembly:

Ms. Heidi Bonnell, Legislative Assistant in the Office of the Premier, has told me that she was not aware that the release of pension information was prohibited by the Freedom of Information Act. She has apologized to the members involved, Mr. Charlie Power, Mr. Bill Matthews and Mr. Norman Doyle, and she has also apologized to me.

I have accepted her apology. It is clear that this ought not to have happened, and we will be tightening procedures to ensure that something of this nature does not happen again.
