The following is being distributed at the request of Conference of Atlantic Premiers:

Appointment of Vice Chair to the Atlantic Procurement Coordinating Committee

The premiers of the Atlantic provinces are pleased to confirm the appointment of Jacques Roy as the vice-chair of the Atlantic Procurement Coordinating Committee (APCC). Mr. Roy is president of Roy Consulting Group Ltd., an engineering consulting company in Bathurst, New Brunswick, with experience in the environmental and municipal fields. He is a board member of both volunteer and professional organizations as well as a director on the board of several businesses and economic development bodies. The positions of chair and vice-chair of the APCC are filled annually by provincial nomination on a rotational basis.

The APCC is responsible for promoting cooperation in government procurement in the Atlantic region and for monitoring compliance with the Atlantic Procurement Agreement. The committee ensures that within the scope of the agreement, all suppliers and contractors in Atlantic Canada are given an equal opportunity to compete for goods, services and construction projects tendered by any provincial government, post- secondary institutions, and publicly funded school and health boards. Whenever practical, joint purchases are promoted under the auspices of the Maritime Purchasing Authority. The Ccmmittee identifies and promotes those goods and services that are unavailable in Atlantic Canada as opportunities for future development within the region.

The Atlantic Procurement Coordinating Committee is a cooperative initiative of the Conference of Atlantic Premiers. Annual reports of the APCC are available through the CMP Secretariat by calling (902) 424- 7590 or in writing P.O. Box 2044, Halifax, NS B3J 2Z1.
