The following release was issued jointly by Brian Tobin, P.C., MHA, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Herb Gray, P.C., MP, Solicitor General of Canada:

Brian Tobin, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Herb Gray, Solicitor General of Canada, have agreed to the formation of a Federal/ Provincial Working Group to examine issues relating to the cost of police services by the RCMP in the province. The Working Group will commence its work immediately; it will be led by senior officials from both the provincial and federal governments. Mr. Gray and Premier Tobin agreed that the Working Group would provide an opportunity to examine costs surrounding the current RCMP policing agreement in a structured, factual way, contributing to the process for budgetary decisions by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
