Team Canada - Education Memorandum of Understanding between province and Thailand

In Thailand, Premier Brian Tobin reached an agreement in principle with the Ministry of University Affairs of Thailand to provide a foundation for academic cooperation. This framework is designed to encourage the development of institutional links, the exchange of information, cooperation in developing specific education and training programs and collaboration in research and development.

Premier Tobin said: "One of the objectives of the Team Canada mission is to promote Canadian education as an export and this agreement will facilitate Thai students coming to Newfoundland to study. As these students graduate and become business leaders in countries around the world their experience in Newfoundland and Labrador can open up many opportunities for our own companies to become more active in the world economy."

This Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be formally approved by the Thailand government in the coming weeks. Subsequently, it is expected that the Minister of University Affairs of Thailand will travel to Newfoundland in the spring to sign the agreement and examine provincial educational institutions and programming.
