Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item.
The proponent proposes to construct and operate an adventure tourism facility within Sir Richard Squires Provincial Park, located approximately seven kilometres north of Deer Lake. The lodge will include a kitchen, dining room, laundry and seven accommodation rooms complete with bathroom facilities. Tours of outlying area will be provided to guests. Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence before the end of 1997. The project was registered on October 23, 1997, public comments must be received before November 28, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on December 7, 1997.
The proponent proposes to construct and operate a sulfur prilling plant for the reforming of molten sulfur into small pellets or prill on the North Atlantic Refinery property in Come By Chance. The proposed plant will also remelt the existing inventory of solid sulfur stored on block, in concert with the molten sulfur for processing into prill. The combined reformed product will be loaded into bulk cargo vessels for transport to export markets. The proposal includes the construction of a building and underground sulfur storage tank as well as the installation of processing equipment and a conveyor system. Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence before the end of 1997. The project was registered on October 28, 1997, public comments must be received before November 28, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on December 12, 1997.
