Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the Regional Office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Labrador City/Wabush to Grande Hermine Park Snowmobile Trail
Proponent: White Wolf Snowmobile Club

The proponent proposes to develop 150 km of trail extending from Labrador City/Wabush to Grande Hermine Park for recreational and tourism related snowmobiling. Approximately 90 per cent of the proposed trail is existing and has been used by snowmobiles for the past 30 years. The route will generally follow the transmission line from Labrador City/Wabush east to Grande Hermine Park, then existing trail will be accessed to the southeast arm of Shabogamo Lake. After crossing the southeast arm, existing and new trail will be accessed/cut to the southwest arm, Albert Lake and back to Labrador City/Wabush. Two warmup cabins are to be constructed and all necessary signage will be posted. The operational period of the trail is expected to be from mid December to mid April. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 1997. The project was registered on August 20, 1997, public comments must be received by September 26, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on October 4, 1997.

NO ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRED:

The minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the following undertaking which has recently been registered and examined by government and the public. The undertaking is released subject to other regulatory and permitting requirements.
