Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item.

  • NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED

    Abitibi-Consolidated Forestry Management District 10, 11, 12
    Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated

The proponent has outlined the proposed activities from January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2002, for forestry management districts 10, 11, 12, located in the central area of Newfoundland. The activities include harvesting, road building, silviculture and protection for the various districts. The project was registered on July 9, 1997, public comments should be received before August 10, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on August 23, 1997.

  • NO ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRED:

The minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the following undertakings which have recently been registered and examined by government and the public. The undertakings are released subject to other regulatory and permitting requirements.

  • - St. Veronica's Christmas Tree Farm
    - Upper Humber/West River Dist. #16 (Amendment)

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
