Labrador Straits Green Depot

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Environment and Labour, announced today the Green Depot system for the Trash to Cash program is continuing to expand. Newfoundland Beverage Recovery Inc. (NewBRI) is currently seeking an operator for a Green Depot to service the Labrador Straits, to be in operation by the middle of August. The Green Depot would service the communities of Red Bay, Pinware, West St. Modeste, Capstan Island, L'Anse au Loup, L'Anse-Amour, Forteau and L'Anse au Clair.

Mr. Aylward said:"Our efforts to improve the system are continuing and I am pleased with our progress to date. Our goal is to ensure all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have the best possible opportunity to return their beverage containers for recycling."

The success of the program is measured by the more than 35 million beverage containers processed through the system since January 15. To date there are 36 Green Depots and several sub-depots found throughout the province, providing an excellent fund raising opportunity for individuals, schools, and community groups, especially with festivities and community events taking place over the summer.

A toll-free number is set up for anyone interested in more information about the program. The number is 1-888-363-8727.
