May 27, 1997 (Environment and Labour) Workers Compensation Commission Statutory Review Report Kevin Aylward, Minister of Environment and Labour, announced today that he has received the report of the Workers' Compensation Commission Statutory Review Committee entitled "Time to Refocus." The Committee was established in accordance with section 126 (2) of the Workers' Compensation Act to "review, consider, report and make recommendations to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council upon matters respecting the regulations and the administration of each as the committee considers appropriate and upon other matters which the Lieutenant-Governor in Council or the Minister may refer to the Committee." The review is carried out every five years in accordance with the legislation. The Terms of Reference for the Committee
included: - investigating the existing system of entitlement to
compensation; The committee was chaired by Dave Alcock, other members include Don Murphy, Jim Skinner and Karen Pierpoint. The Committee held meetings around the province and received over 200 submissions. Government will now review the report and address the recommendations of the Committee. The report will be sent to all stakeholders and copies are available from the Department of Environment and Labour by calling 729-5523.
