The proponent proposes to construct and operate a pumping station and water bottling plant to export water to world wide markets. The proposed location is the former Director Mine located approximately 2.3 km southwest of the town of St. Lawrence. Underground water which floods old mine workings will be pumped to the surface for processing. Water usage is estimated to be 120 cubic meters per day in the first year of operation and may increase to 600 cubic meters per day within 10 years. The project was registered on April 17, public comments are due on May 23, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on June 1, 1997.

  • Bonne Bay Fish Hatchery and Incubation Facilities
    Arctic Aquafoods Incorporated

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a land-based hatchery and incubation unit in the Bonne Bay area to raise domesticated Arctic char broodstock. Following the research and development phase, the undertaking will become a commercial fish farm producing juveniles and fish suitable for sale in the food markets. The planned site for the hatchery is near Lomond at an abandoned gravel pit located on Route 431. Components of this operation will include a hatchery and 12 outside fish tanks. The incubation facility will be contained in a small structure located in Wiltondale in a wooded lot on Route 430 just south of the Bonne Bay Development Association office. Groundwater spring sources will be bermed and water will be piped underground to the fish facilities. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in July 1997. The project was registered on April 18, 1997, public comments are due on May 23, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on June 2, 1997.
