The proponent proposes to construct and operate a winery at Twillingate in the existing Islands Training Centre building formerly known as Durrells Academy. During the first year of operation, the winery will brew and bottle 120,000 bottles (20,000 gallons) of wine. Production is anticipated to double in five years. The undertaking will be a year round operation and will consist of a winery with primary and secondary fermentation areas, a tasting room, offices and a bottling area. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin this spring. The proposal was registered on March 19, 1997 and the minister's decision is due on May 2, 1997. Public comments are due by April 18, 1997.
The proponent has submitted an addendum to the registration document describing a new gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator as an alternative to two package boilers originally proposed. The addendum is available for public review. The minister's decision is due April 11, 1997. A guide to the Environmental Assessment Process is available from the Department of Environment and Labour.
