Results of July 21 by election in St. John's West

The following is being distributed at the request of Robert J. Jenkins, Chief Electoral Officer:

The official addition of the votes for the July 21, 1997 by election in St. John's West was completed by the Returning Officer, Bernice Stokes, at her office, Cowan Heights United Church, 141 Frecker Drive, St. John's, on Tuesday, July 22. Ms. Stokes has certified the following votes cast for each candidate:

Clarke, Roy	55
Lynch, Pat New Democratic	962
Moore, Tom Liberal	1,192
Osborne, Sheila Progressive Conservative	1,303

The declaration of election of Sheila Osborne that was made by the Returning Officer today will be published in the Newfoundland Gazette on August 6, 1997, pursuant to Section 82(2) of the Election Act whereupon arrangements will be made for Sheila Osborne to be sworn in as the Member of the House of Assembly for the Electoral District of St. John's West.
