		June 1997 senior high school results


The Minister of Education, Roger D. Grimes, today released final results for students in senior high 
school during the 1996-97 school year.
This year, approximately 30,000 students were enrolled in the first, second, and third years of the 
senior high school program.  Thesestudents completed a total of 235,384 course evaluations carried 
out by the school, achieving an overall pass rate on these courses of 90.9 per cent.  Of the 6,873 
candidates in their final year of high school who met graduation requirements, 2,138 (31 per cent)
graduated with honours and 714 (10 per cent) graduated with distinction.
Official transcripts are being mailed out today to individual students, and summaries of overall results 
are being forwarded to schools and school boards.
