Minister to hold meetings in St. Pierre and Miquelon

Economic opportunities between Newfoundland and Labrador, St. Pierre and the European Economic Union will continue to be explored when Judy Foote, Minister of Development and Rural Renewal, meets with representatives of the Government of France in St. Pierre and Miquelon next week.

"The French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon offer opportunity to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to access the markets of Europe," said the minister. "St. Pierre is a gateway to the European Economic Union which to date has been largely untapped. We intend to establish strong trade linkages with St. Pierre and Miquelon in an effort to access new market opportunities for our private sector. This will help create the environment for the private sector to explore new business opportunities with the French Islands and all of Europe through the gateway available through St. Pierre and Miquelon."

These and other economic opportunities will be explored during next week's meetings. The meetings will be held from April 7 to 9.
