August 23, 1996 The following is being distributed at the request of Marine Atlantic: MV Caribou misses one round trip between North Sydney and Port aux Basques Marine Atlantic's MV Caribou has missed one round trip between North Sydney and Port aux Basques, due to a mechanical problem with a propulsion shaft bearing. The ship had to return to North Sydney overnight for repairs, resulting in the cancellation of the scheduled 8 a.m sailing from Port aux Basques today, and the 1:30 p.m. departure from North Sydney. Although it is expected that the schedule will have returned to normal by this evening, it will be likely tomorrow before all passengers and vehicles affected by the cancellated trips have been transported. Until that has been accomplished, no reserved standby traffic will be accepted at the ferry terminals. The company is making every effort to accommodate those inconvenienced as quickly as possible. To assist in this regard, MV Atlantic Freighter is being used to carry some automobiles, with the occupants travelling separately aboard the Caribou.
