(Works, Services and Transportation)

The following is being distributed at the request of Marine Atlantic:

Moya Cahill, chairman of the Board of Directors of Marine Atlantic, has assumed additional responsibilities as president and CEO of the Crown corporation effective August 8.

Her appointment Thursday will be in effect until Transport Canada completes its request for proposals process to privately operate Marine Atlantic's two Bay of Fundy services. It is anticipated that this will take about 12 weeks.

The appointment was made after company president Rod Morrison took a leave of absence to submit a proposal to operate these services.

In addition to the Fundy Services, Marine Atlantic operates ferries to Port aux Basques and Argentia, Newfoundland, to Goose Bay and along the coast of Labrador, and to Prince Edward Island, under contractual arrangements with Transport Canada.
