Northern freight acceptance to begin July 5

The following is being distributed at the request of Marine Atlantic:

Marine Atlantic will begin accepting freight for the northern Labrador ports on Friday, July 5 at its terminals in Lewisporte and Goose Bay.

Coastal general manager John Baker says sailings to the northern ports are scheduled to take place next week as ice conditions continue to improve.

While favourable ice conditions enabled southern Labrador freight and passenger service to start as scheduled in early June, ice has been persistent along the north Labrador coast, preventing the start up of service to that area.
