Marine Atlantic and Canadian Auto Workers Union reach tentative agreement

Marine Atlantic and its largest employee union have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

The agreement between the company and the Canadian Auto Workers Union, which represents about 1,600 vessel employees, was concluded today after two days of talks with the assistance of a federal conciliation officer.

The three-year agreement would be retroactive to January 1, 1995.

Marine Atlantic has already finalized collective agreements with its two other employee unions.

Marine Atlantic is a federal Crown corporation which operates the major ferry services throughout Atlantic Canada.
