The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Mark Spurrell, Prince of Wales FSC, put together an 8th place in the short program, with a 5th place in the free skate portion to finish 5th out of 13 skaters in the pre-novice men event at Atlantic Canadians.

Carla Ryan, Conception Bay South FSC, was 9th after the short, 10th in the free skate to finish in 7th place out of 20 competitors in the pre-novice ladies category.

Stefan Dean, St. John's FSC, was 6th after the short program, 7th in the free skate to end up in 7th place out of 10 competitors.

Other results are as follows:

Pre-Novice Ladies: (19 competitors)

  • Heather Dawe, Conception Bay North FSC, took a 14th place in the short, combined with an 8th place in the free skate to finish in ninth.
  • Deanne Leonard, St. John's FSC, was 12th after the short program, 9th in the free skate for a final placing of 10th.
  • Virginia Toombs, Prince of Wales, FSC, doubled an 11th place in the short and the free skate to end up in 12th place overall.

Pre-Novice Men: (13 competitors)

  • Nicholas Gibbs from Polaris FSC, Labrador City, was 11th in the short, 9th in the free skate to finish in 9th spot.
  • Thomas Hawkins, Silver Jets FSC, Gander was 9th in the short, 10th in the free skate to take the 10th place.
  • Neal Thorne, Trinity Placentia FSC, Whitbourne, was 10th in the short, 11th in the free skate for a final placing of 11th.

Novice Ladies: (19 competitors)

  • Krissy Dooling, Mount Pearl FSC, was 7th in the short, 11th in the free skate to finish 10th out of 19 skaters.
  • Jodi Frye, Polaris FSC, Labrador City was 9th in the short, 12th in the free skate to end up in 12th place.
  • Janelle Dinn, St. John's FSC, was 12th after the short, 14th in the free skate for 13th place finish.
  • Lori Brett, Mount Pearl FSC, was 16th after the short, 13th in the free skate to take 14th spot.

Junior Ladies: (14 competitors)

  • Adrienne Mercer, Prince of Wales FSC, was 13th in the short, 11th in the free skate to end up 11th.
  • Lelia Hutton, Prince of Wales FSC, finished solidly in 12th place after a 12th place in the short and the free skate.
  • Janice Hynes, Polaris, was 14th overall after equal results in the short and the free skate.

Pre-Novice Dance: (6 competitors)

  • Lindsay Hillier and Nicholas Gibbs from Polaris FSC had a final placing of 6th after equal results in the two compulsory dances and the rhythm dance.

Qualifying skaters from Atlantic Canadians travel to Bank of

Montreal Canadians to be held in Vancouver, February 3 to 9, 1997.
