The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial boys A and 3A volleyball championships

The High School Athletic Federation continues its series of Provincial Volleyball Championships December 6, 7. The boys A and 3A tournaments will be held in Lumsden/Musgrave Harbour and Carmanville

The A event is being co-hosted by Lumsden School and Gill Memorial, and will feature 10 teams. Division one will be played in Lumsden and will see action from the host team, along with Xavier High (Long Harbour), St. Anne's All Grade (Conne River), Sops Arm Central High and H.G. Fillier (Englee). Competing for top honours in Division two, played in Musgrave Harbour, will be Gill Memorial (Musgrave Hr.) Victoria All Grade (Gaultois), Our Lady of the Cape High (DeGraw), Corpus Christi (Northern Bay) and St. Bernard's All Grade. All teams will play a round robin format in their own division with the top two teams from each division advancing to the semi-finals. The tournament games get underway at both venues at 1 p.m. and continue throughout Friday and Saturday. The semi-finals, bronze medal game and the championship game will be played Saturday afternoon at Lumsden.

Carmanville School Complex is the host school for the six team boys 3A tournament. Other schools competing against Carmanville include Baltimore High (Ferryland), Elwood Regional High (Deer Lake), Bishop White All Grade (Port Rexton), Templeton Collegiate (Gilliams) and King Academy (Harbour Breton).

Opening ceremonies will get underway at 12:30 Friday, followed immediately by the round robin contests. Nine matches will be played on Friday, with the remaining six round robin games starting 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The top four teams will advance to the semi-final, with first place playing fourth and second playing third. This will be followed by the bronze and gold medal games.

The provincial high school championship banner will be awarded to each winning team along with gold medals. Keyin Technical College, the sponsor of the Federation, will present the Keyin Sportsmanship Award.
