Badminton Triple Crown, Double Crown

The Pepsi Juvenile U-16 Closed Badminton Tournament was held at Fred Kirby Intermediate, Foxtrap, on Saturday, November 23. Nadine Newman of Eastport won her second consecutive triple crown in juvenile badminton competition this year. Beenu Wadhwa of St. John's captured a double crown.

Newman won the girls singles event, and teamed with Kristen Powell of Eastport to take girls doubles. Newman and Wadhwa won mixed doubles gold. Wadhwa joined forces with Vishal Kaushik of St. John's to take boys doubles gold. Chad Decker of Pilley's Island emerged as the top boys singles player.

Results of the Pepsi Juvenile U-16 determine which junior athletes represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Junior Atlantic Badminton Championship, to be held in Nova Scotia in March 1997. Complete results of the Pepsi Eastern Juvenile U-16 are as follows:
