The following is being distributed the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

About 50 soccer people from around the province are expected to be in Marystown November 8 and 9 for the 1996 annual meeting of the Newfoundland Soccer Association.

"We are looking forward to an interesting and constructive meeting," says association president Angus Barrett of St. John's. "It is the first NSA annual session on the Burin Peninsula and all in all that should guarantee a quality meeting."

Barrett, who is entering the second of a two-year term, explained the meeting will elect a vice-president, treasurer and female chair for the next two years.

"I understand that Clayton Welsh of Grand Bank will accept re- election as vice-president," Barrett said, but treasurer George Parsons and female chair Patsy Reddy are not seeking re-election.

In addition to Barrett, secretary Doug Redmond and minor chair Peter Hood, both of St. John's, have one more year in their terms.

"Following the normal procedure, we will review the past year through various reports, I feel they will show a great deal of success," Barrett said. "There was plenty of good soccer during 1996.

"Of course, the meeting will hold discussions of the direction the association wants to go with the various delegates playing a major role. The possibility of re-instating an all-star system for female and male under 15 and under 17 teams for Atlantic play is one of the main topics."

Naming the various teams and individuals who have won the organization's annual awards will be another highlight of the meeting Barrett predicted.

Both the provincial and Burin Peninsula soccer Halls of Fame will hold 1996 inductions during the meeting.

"We will have soccer people from all over the province paying tribute to other soccer people, both as award winners and as inductees into the Soccer Hall of Fame.

"It is shaping up as a fine soccer weekend," Barrett concluded.
