The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial 4A Girls Slo-Pitch and Cross Country Running

Two more provincial high school championships will take place this coming weekend. The Girls 4A Slo-Pitch champions as well as the Cross Country Running champions will be decided.

The 4A Girls Slo-Pitch is being hosted by Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts. Eight teams have qualified for the championships through zone and regional tournaments. In the Subway Division, Queen Elizabeth Regional High Pioneers (Foxtrap), Pearce Regional High Panthers (Salt Pond), Ascension Collegiate Astros (Bay Roberts) and Regina High Knights (Corner Brook) will compete for the top two playoff spots. The Wescal Sports Division will feature St. Kevin's High Mavericks (Goulds), Laval High Cavaliers (Placentia), Roncalli High Cardinals (Avondale) and Gander Collegiate Concordes. Games will begin 12:30 p.m. Friday at two venues and continue through Saturday. The semi-final games are scheduled for 12 noon and 1:15 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Baltimore High School in Ferryland is the host school for the Provincial High School Cross Country Running Championships. Champions will be decided in team and individual events for junior and senior boys and girls. The race course for the individual races will be 7.5 kilometres for senior boys, five kilometres for senior girls and junior boys and 2.5 kilometres for junior girls, while the race distances for the relay will be one kilometre for all except 0.5 kilometre for the junior girls.
