The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association (NLBA), in conjunction with the Newfoundland Association of Basketball Officials (NABO), have announced a series of referee clinics for the eastern portion of the island. The main objective of the clinics is the recruitment of new officials into the provincial association.

Peter Abbott, president of the officials association, states: "As the sport of basketball continues to grow and develop across the island, so must the quality and quantity of officials. Our association is committed to this recruitment program and our objective is to double the amount of certified officials in the province for the 1997-98 season. With the NLBA and NABO working together, we will achieve our objective."

The first of four recruitment clinics is set for Carbonear, October 19 at St. Francis School. To register for this clinic, contact Bob White at (709) 596-1999. The second clinic is set for Mount Pearl at O'Donel High School, October 25 and 26. Interested individuals should contact Harry Power at (709) 745-0053.
