The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association has set the dates for the remainder of the outdoor volleyball tournaments for this summer. The first of a series of three tournaments will be held in Paradise in conjunction with the town's Summer Splash Festival on Saturday, July 27, with the rain day scheduled for Sunday, July 28. The second will be the provincial qualifier to be played in Gander in conjunction with the Festival for Flight August 3, with the rain day for August 4. The winners of the competitive two vs. two event from the Gander tournament will earn the right to play in the National Beach Championship in Ottawa in late August. Each winning team will receive free airline tickets to the event, compliments of Canadian Airlines and Volleyball Canada. The final event will be hosted by the Humber Valley Volleyball Club in Pasadena on August 10, with the rain day scheduled for Sunday, August 11.
Each tournament will have categories for open two vs. two and recreational four vs. four, men's and women's divisions. In the Provincial Qualifier, the two vs. two event, the highest placing senior team - according to NLVA age restrictions - will earn the right to attend the National Beach Championship.
Anyone interested in registering for any of the outdoor events can contact the Provincial Volleyball Office at 576-0817; or for events in the following areas, contact the following: Paradise - Paradise Recreation Department; Gander - Wayne Willmott - 651-2935; and Pasadena - Ronnie Birmingham. The registration fees for the events are $20 per team for doubles and $30 per team for recreational four's. For the Provincial Qualifier, the doubles team registration will be $30 per team. The registration deadline for all events is 12 noon on the Friday prior to the event.
