Canada Games soccer teams to Atlantic tournament

The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Newfoundland's entry in the 1997 Canada Games men's and women's soccer competition will be playing in the Atlantic Canada Games Soccer Tournament this coming weekend in Charlottetown, P.E.I. This tournament will bring together the Canada Games teams from all four Atlantic provinces.

Newfoundland's men's first game is set for 6 p.m. Friday against the host P.E.I. team at the UPEI pitch. The Newfoundland men will play New Brunswick 1 p.m. Saturday and Breakers 10 a.m. Sunday. The women's team will play 7 p.m. Friday against host P.E.I. at the UPEI pitch then New Brunswick 3 p.m. Saturday and Nova Scotia 10 a.m. Sunday.

Members of the men's team, which is currently playing in Challenge Cup, are: Jeremy Charles, Chris Rose, John Acreman, C.J. Nolan, Mount Pearl; Damien Lee, Steve Murphy, Mike Comerford, John Hogan, St. John's; Chad Parsons, Chris Hackett, Paradise; Ian Duffett, Andrew Scott, Manuels; Tony Lawrence, Mike Kirby, Kelligrews; Jeff Walsh, Mike Vickers, Stephenville; Stanley Myles, Garnish; and Shane Etchegary, St. Lawrence. The team's head coach is Andy Cameron, assistant coach is Scott Betts and the manager is Jerry Kirby.

Members of the women's team, which is currently undefeated in the St. John's Senior Women's League, are: Cathy Alcock, Kristen Arnott, Sarah Arnott, Fiona Curtis, Narina Delaney, Joanne Hefford, Tamar Hood, Susan Myrden, Megan Roberts, Susan Russell, Karen Wade, all of St. John's; Michele Derwin, Leslie Hoysradt, Anne Stapleton, Kerri Walsh, Mount Pearl; Jennifer Neville, Paradise; and Krista Stewart, Marystown. The team's head coach is Ed Arnott, assistant coach is Mary Stordy and the manager is Marie Roberts.
