The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association is proud to announce that the Havoc Volleyball team from the Humber Volleyball Club in Western Newfoundland captured a bronze medal at the Eastern Canadian Volleyball Championship in Halifax over the last weekend. During the round robin, the Havoc team finished with an impressive record of four wins and one loss. The wins came against PEI (2-0), PQ (2-1), New Brunswick 1 (2-0) and Nova Scotia 1 (2-0) with their only loss against Ontario 2 (1-2). In the playoffs they crossed over against Ontario 1 losing a close match (0-2), then in the bronze medal game they came up against PQ 1 and defeated them 2-0 capturing the bronze medal. This is the third year in a row that the province has claimed a medal in the Eastern Canadian Midget Championships. In 1994 the Loopers Club from Musgrave Harbour captured a bronze and in 1995 the Humber Volleyball Club captured a silver.

Richard Butt from the Havoc team was named to the tournament allstar team and as well claimed two player of the game awards. The other teams attending the championship were the Loopers volleyball team from Musgrave Harbour, who had a disappointing finish of 12th with a record of 0-7. On the women's side, both teams performed well with the Discovery Collegiate team from Bonavista placing sixth with a record 2-3 in the round robin, and loosing in the playoffs against Ontario 2 to finish sixth. The Corner Brook team finished the round robin at 1-4 and won both of their playoff matches to win the consolation side of the playoffs, finishing seventh overall.
