Sport Newfoundland and Labrador
Minor Hoop Championships

The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association have over 150 teams registered for this year's "Minor Pepsi Hoop Championships". Five of the 18 tournaments are slated for this weekend, April 26 - 27, in various communities around the island.

Twillingate will play host to the West Coast Juvenile (under 17) Girls Provincials with eight teams registered. Teams entered are J.M.Olds Collegiate of Twillingate, Leo Burke Academy of Bishops Falls, Elwood High and Deer Lake Pentecostal of Deer Lake, Grandy's River Collegiate of Port aux Basques, Pasadena Academy of Pasadena and St. Stephen's of Stephenville.

Gander will host the West Coast Intermediate (under 14) Boys Provincials with eight teams registered as well. Teams entered include St. James of Port aux Basques, G. C. Rose, Presentation and G. A. Mercer of Corner Brook, Xavier of Deer Lake, F.G. Bursey of Grand Falls- Windsor, Lakewood Academy of Glenwood and St. Paul's from Gander.

Deer Lake will host the West Coast Juvenile (under 17) Boys Provincials with eight teams taking part. Teams registered include Belanger Memorial from Doyles, Herdman of Corner Brook, Botwood Collegiate, Lewisporte High, St. Michael's from Grand Falls-Windsor, Leo Burke Academy of Bishops Falls and Elwood Seniors and Elwood Juniors from Deer Lake.

St. John's will play host to the East Coast Juvenile (under 17) Provincials with a total of nine teams participating. Bishop Collegiate will host the event and will compete against St. Joseph's of Bay de Verte, St. Francis of Harbour Grace, Baltimore High of Renews, Stella Maris of Trepassey, Mobile High, Beaconsfield and Prince of Wales Collegiate from St. John's and O'Donel representing Mount Pearl.

St. Peter's "A" and St. Peter's "B" teams of Mount Pearl will host the East Coast Bantam (under 13) Girls Provincials with a total of nine teams registered for the event. Other teams competing in the event include Fogo Island, St. Lawrence, Mobile, St. Joseph's of Renews, Stella Maris from Trepassey, St. Kevin's of the Goulds and St. Bon's from St. John's.
