Eastern Canadian Midget Volleyball Championships


The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Eastern Canadian Midget Volleyball Championships will take place April 26, 27 and 28 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Newfoundland will be represented by four teams. In the boys draw the Humber Volleyball Club from Corner Brook and the Loopers Volleyball Club from Carmanville/Musgrave Harbour will be competing. Discovery Collegiate Destroyers from Bonavista and Corner Brook Midgets will be competing in the girls draw.

The Humber Volleyball Club from Corner Brook who in the provincial championships went undefeated, will be led by Canada Games setter and provincial midget A all-star Richard Butt and provincial midget A all- star Chris Rose. The team who last year finished second in Eastern Canadian Midget Championships in Corner Brook will compete in pool B and play their first match against the Islanders from Prince Edward Island. They then play the Ottawa Falcons from Ontario, Quebec #2, Vikings from New Brunswick and the Dartmouth Lakers from Nova Scotia.

Newfoundland's other representative in the boys draw Loopers Volleyball Club from Carmanville/Musgrave Harbour who lost to the Humber Volleyball Club in the final of the provincial midget championships will be led by provincial midget A most spirited player Shannon Nippard and provincial midget A all-stars Blair Hann and Gregory Hancock. They will compete in pool A with their first match against Summerside Selects from Prince Edward Island. They then play the Bulldogs from New Brunswick, Quebec #1, Forest City from Ontario and Sykhawks from Nova Scotia.

In the girls draw Discovery Collegiate Destroyers from Bonavista who won the provincial midget A championships going undefeated will be led by Canada Games setter and provincial midget A most spirited player Susan Penney and provincial midget A all-star Penny Durdle. The team will be competing in pool D and their first match will be against Les Rebelles from New Brunswick. They then play Sparks from Prince Edward Island, Margeree Tigers from Nova Scotia, Diggers from Ontario and Quebec #1.

Newfoundland's other representative in the girls draw Corner Brook Midgets who lost to Discovery Collegiate in the finals of the provincial midget A championships will be competing in pool C. They are led by provincial midget A all-star Catherine Flemming. The teams first match will be against Patroits Midgets from New Brunswick, they then play Islanders from Prince Edward Island, Dartmouth Lakers from Nova Scotia, Hamilton Seekers from Ontario and Quebec #2.
