April 16, 1996 (Tourism, Culture and Recreation) Island 3A Provincial Table Tennis Championships, April 19 and 20, Norris Point The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation: The Island 3A Provincial Table Tennis Championships are being held on April 19 and 20 weekend in Norris Point. Hollands Memorial School is the host. The provincial tournament is being held in Labrador City. Because the cost of a full provincial in Labrador is too great, the federation sponsors the island tournament, whose winner then advances to the provincial to compete against all Labrador teams. Seven teams are registered for the island tournament which will consist of a team and individual format. Competing for the right to travel to Labrador will be Legallais High (Isle aux Morts), Assumption High (Stephenville Crossing), Lewisporte Regional High, Charisma Collegiate (Springdale), Bishop White All Grade (Port Rexton), John Watkins Academy (Hermitage) and the host Hollands Memorial. Competition will be held first in the team event followed by the individual. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in girls singles, boys singles, girls doubles, boys doubles and mixed doubles. Qualifying for this tournament was through zone and regional playdowns.
