Sport Newfoundland and Labrador
Provincial hoop team selection camps


The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association have recently finalized all sites and dates regarding Open Selection Camps for their summer provincial teams.

The midget programs will have tryout camps on both the east and west coast as follows:

                        MIDGET BOYS OPEN TRYOUTS
East Coast Tryout   Torbay Recreation Centre, St. John's    
                    April 12, 9 a.m. - 12 noon and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
                    Head Coach - Randy Ash (registration fee $10)

West Coast Tryout   G.C. Rowe School, Corner Brook
                    May 5, 9 a.m. - 12 noon
                    Head Coach - Randy Ash (registration fee $5)

                        MIDGET GIRLS OPEN TRYOUTS

East Coast Tryout   Torbay Recreation Centre, St. John's
                    April 12, 12 noon - 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.             
                    April 13, 9 a.m. - 12 noon
                    Clinician - Paul Byrne 
                    Head Coach - Charles Barker (Registration fee $15)

West Coast Tryout   Elwood High, Deer Lake
                    April 12, 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
                    April 13, 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon and 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
                    Head Coach - Charles Barker (Registration fee $15)

Eligibility:   Under 15 (Born in 1981 or later)
Competition:   Eastern Canadian Championships in Prince Edward Island
               August 2 - 4, 1996 (Boys and Girls)

The juvenile programs will have tryout camps on both the east and west
coast as follows:

                       JUVENILE BOYS OPEN TRYOUTS

East Coast Tryout   Torbay Recreation Centre, St. John's
                    April 9, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
                    April 10, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
                    Head Coach - George Power (Registration fee $20)

West Coast Tryout   Elwood High, Deer Lake
                    April 28, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
                    Head Coach - George Power (Registration fee $5)
                    Clinician - Jim Feltham

                       JUVENILE GIRLS OPEN TRYOUTS

East Coast Tryout   Torbay Recreation Centre, St. John's
                    April 12, 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
                    April 13, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.
                    Head Coach - Paul Byrne (Registration fee $15)

The Ladies Canada Games Program will hold camps in St. John's, Stephenville
and Glenwood as follows:

                           CANADA GAMES LADIES

East Coast Tryout   Torbay Centre, St. John's
                    April 8, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.
                    Head Coach - Glenn Taylor (Registration fee $10)

Central Tryout      Lakewood Academy, Glenwood
                    April 20, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
                    Head Coach - Glenn Taylor (Registration fee $5)

West Tryout Camp    Stephenville Training Centre, Stephenville
                    April 10, 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 
                    7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
                    Head Coach - Glenn Taylor (Registration fee $15)

Eligibility:   Under 18 (Born in 1978 or later)
Competition:   Ontario Exhibition Tournament June 28-31 (tentative)
               Jr. National Championships in Brandon, Manitoba 
               July 30 - August 6  
     Athletes selected to any of the provincial programs listed above will
be expected to relocate to the St. John's/Mount Pearl area, with  the
exception of the Midget Girls Teams which will train in Deer Lake, for a
three to four week period.  Only those athletes willing to make the
commitment to relocate are asked to attend the Open Selection Camps
