The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The 1997 Sun Life Newfoundland Sectional Figure Skating Championships came to a close in Labrador City November 10. The Sun Life Award of Merit was presented to Janelle Dinn of St. John's Figure Skating Club.

The Polaris Cup for the Most Artistic Performance went to Deanne Leonard of St. John's Figure Skating Club.

The Travel Management Trophy for the Least Deductions in a Technical Program went to Kristina Dooling of the Mount Pearl Figure Skating Club.

The team to represent Newfoundland at the Atlantic Figure Skating Championships, December 5 to 8, in Dartmouth will be comprised of the following skaters:

    Junior Ladies: Adrienne Mercer, Prince of Wales FSC, Lelia
      Button, Prince of Wales FSC, Janice Hynes, Polaris FSC
    Novice Ladies: Janelle Dinn, St. John's, FSC, Jodi Frye,
      Polaris FSC, Kristina Dooling, Mount Pearl FSC, Lori Brett, Mount Pearl FSC
    Novice Men: Stefan Dean, St. John's FSC

    Pre-Novice Ladies: Carla Ryan, Conception Bay South FSC, Deanne

      Leonard, St. John's FSC, Virginia Toombs, Prince of Wales FSC, Heather Dawe, Conception Bay North FSC
    Pre-Novice Men: Mark Spurrell, Prince of Wales FSC, Thomas
      Hawkins, Silver Jets FSC, Neal Thorne, Trinity- Placentia FSC, Nicholas Gibbs, Polaris FSC
Pre-Novice Dance: Lindsay Hillier and Nicholas Gibbs, Polaris FSC

Top placing skaters from Atlantics will proceed to the Bank of Montreal Canadians to be held in Vancouver February 3 to 9, 1997.

The medallists in other categories decided at this competition were:

      Nichole Templeman, Mount Pearl Janis Noftle, Conception Bay South
    Juvenile Ladies B: Jessica Pike, Silver Blades, Clarenville
